Digital Rock Physics- SCAL

In collaboration with London based Unipetrosol, INJAZ UPS offer unique digital rock services. Unipetrosol applies digital rock physics techniques to provide in depth analysis and prediction of single and multiphase flow in both natural and industrial porous media. Digital rock physics techniques can be applied to oil & gas sector, supercritical CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers or depleted oil fields and remediation of contaminated soils.

INJAZ UPS through Unipetrosol can conduct experimental and modelling work on a range of industrial and scientific problems.

Experimental Characterization

3D imaging of porous media and fluid phases within is at the core of our services. These images provide detailed characterization of porous samples as well as the input to the numerical models used to predict thermal, electrical and flow properties of the sample for different conditions of interest. Following is a list of a few out of numerous services we provide:

  • Multi-scale X-ray tomographic imaging of rocks and other porous materials
  • In-situ imaging of two- and three-phase flow at reservoir conditions
  • Wettability assessment from in-situ contact angle measurements
  • Consultancy on various projects related to oil recovery, enhanced oil recovery and CO2 injection in saline aquifers and reservoir rocks
  • We also provide lab consultancy to construct custom-built complex flow loops for multiphase flow and reactive transport in porous rocks

Pore-Scale Simulation

Our modelling service is based on a suite of packages including direct simulation, analysis of X-ray micro-CT images, machine learning, pore network and Darcy-scale models.

We take pore structure, typically based on X-ray micro-CT imaging, as input to our models. In addition, we characterize fluid-rock wettability in detail using X-ray micro-CT images of two-phase flow experiments or using core-flood experimental data. We then compute missing or harder to compute flow properties such as:

  • Relative permeability
  • Capillary pressure (retention) curves
  • Electrical resistivity index
  • Dispersion, heat and mass transfer coefficients

Our models can produce these properties for various displacement scenarios, fluid and rock properties efficiently and accurately.

The combination of our modelling and experimental techniques provide accurate and reliable prediction of different flow and transport properties quicker, at a lower cost and yet at an unprecedented detail. Our pore-scale data and analysis tools can empower you to optimize your industrial application of interest.

INJAZ UPS was established in 2016 as a fully-owned Omani Petroleum services provider company based in Muscat. The company was formed during the economic downturn of oil and gas sector with the objective to provide honest and transparent services with cost-effective solutions to make oil business more economical.
